LIG Biowise Ltd is currently in the process of research and development for rapid diagnostic system for respiratory tract infections (including diagnostic kit and detection equipment ), aiming to provide a fast and accurate test method that is currently lacking for accurate identification of bacterial or viral infections for patients at the point of care, as well as detection of respiratory infection pathogen. Accurate treatment of related drugs by identifying the cause of infection, will reduce the quantities of unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions, and reduce the amount of drug-resistant bacteria, so as to solve the global problem of antibiotic resistance (60% of the antibiotics are used for respiratory diseases, reduction of unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions can reduce drug resistance). The research and development of this technology has been funded by several EU countries and UK government.

The rapid diagnosis system for respiratory infections, developed by LIG Biowise Ltd, could detect automatically more than 20 respiratory infection pathogens and response to key clinical questions about the causes of respiratory infections.
At the same time, it has characteristics like ultra-fast operation (diagnosis finished within 30 minutes), safe, non-invasive sampling, easy to be operated (easy for clinical use), relatively low cost, high sensitivity and specificity.

The diagnostic system initially focused on the diagnosis of pathogens causing respiratory tract infections, but there are other potential areas to expand, including the diagnosis of infections of other systems in the human body, as well as other fields, such as veterinary, agriculture, food quality control, etc.).
